Music Monday Top 5 March 8th - Anthems

Hey Folks,

Anthems have always been reserved for countries and schools, establishments and such. But there are those songs that you pull every now and then because some phase of your life is changing, or changed, coming to an end or a new begining.

These are my anthems

5) Sonic Youth - Teenage Riot
Why: I pull this song up every time I just need to get my day going, kick myself in the pants. It's a motivator and a great song


4) Gray Matter - Head
Why:I don't know how this came to be, but this is my audition song. the night Before, or that last thing I do before bolting out the door to an audition is listen to this song.


3) Pegboy - Strong Reaction
Why: Similar to the previous two songs, or almost a combination therein possibly. This song is my fist pumping, get me out the door song.


2) The Damned - New Rose
Why: New Rose comes out when I'm done sulking about past relationships and I'm ready for further punishment from the female species. I almost have to wonder if looking it up for this list, in itself isn't a sign of it's timely arrival to something new... ladies? hmmm


1) Hüsker Dü - New Day Rising
Why: When all else fail, when the ships have been turned over and the skies have gone gray - There is this title track from one of my all time favorite punk bands. New Day Rising is a bullet of adrenaline shot strait in to your heart and there is no room for anything left in it's wake. It's go time.

Music Monday Top 5 Feb 22

Hey Folks,

5) The Lashers - Yesterday Feels Like a Year
Why: This was actually a total accident. I was looking for songs on Blip.fm and I hit the space bar to stop the current video. But whatever happened, instead of stopping it queued the next song and this came on. And I liked it! :)



4) Cursive - Dorothy at Forty
Why: This is actually the most played song on my iTunes. I'm a little shocked my ownself. I mean I love it. It's a great song, And yes I've only had this line up of songs on my iTunes for like 3 years (that's when I got the computer)... but still it seemed pretty recent for this song to have beaten out bands like All, Pegboy and the Misfits. I mean things that I've had in my rotation for almost 2 decades.. but there it is, this is my most played song on this computer.


3) The Hold Steady - Chips Ahoy!
Why: So oddly enough, I was reviewing a recently finished project, when I logged in to archive the casting call and found that there were 4 new submissions. Sadly I'd already shot the piece, but amongst the submissions was the girl from this video. Odder still a friend had previously to me he had a crush on her the night before!



2) Sonic Youth - Silver Rocket
Why: Yesterday I tweeted about how under rated I thought Sonic Youth was. They're one of my top 20 bands of all time, maybe even top 10. Hell maybe even top 5. Yes they're that good. I acknowledge, they've done some shit I don't care for. They've experimented and from time to time made stuff I didn't care for.. but then there are songs like Silver Rocket, Dirty Boots and everything off 'Day dream nation' that will always make them one of my favorite bands.



1) Avail - Hang
Why: Honestly this was a mistake. Someone wrote a status update about some other band, Anvil or something... and boom the memory sparked. I instantly thought of Avail. I thought of this song. I thought of their cover of 'Pink Houses' I thought of the album 4am. I thought of John Davies who burnt me a copy of this album. So I present one of my favorite songs from this epic band that sport the lyrics "i heard you got robbed last week, did you know i got shot last night?"

Working Together

Hey Folks,

It efforts to just be more productive and such - here I am online blogging.

Everyday can't be a vlog, and actually I don't even know that I could come up ideas fast enough to do so.

Which is why I've started a new video collab collective group.

I'm hoping to make it a place where people can find other people to collaborate on videos together.

It's also going to be a place for people to make suggestions for me to do.

Failpire - Fails upward!

Hey Folks,

So here's a quick run down on some thing you may or may not know about.

Since July of last year I've been hosting 'Failpire' a weekly late night style talk show, that include interview guests, live musical performances, and a cavalcade of funny videos.
So what's coming up?
• New Schedule - early time and more days

We're number 17! We're number 17!

And so it goes the front page of youtube is a fleeting glory once held in a hand covered in slippery oil trying to grasp a marble made of mercury.

However a mere 3 days ago (which seems like eons) the video I directed and conceived was featured on the front page of youtube. Amy Vorpahl stars in the video and wrote the lyrics (and sang the song) and a cavalcade of people helped out on the production.

As for being pushed down to the 17th spot by day 3, no biggie. Project Awesome is a great concept and even to share page space with it is an honor. We got almost 400,000 hits in the few days on the front page and that's cool. So now onward and upward to whatever's next

StarBlazing

Last Week I made something amazing, moar epic. I'm talking of course about the Starblazers theme song. Since then I've been flooded with old memories of evil blue dudes, Wave Motion Cannons and the coolest spaceship ever. The Argo.

But this ain't no jason and the Argonauts shit. I'm talking a full fledged WWII style sky sailing, space force battle ship.



I was lead down a path of ancillary research (maybe I should have been working, maybe I should have been eating or sleeping... but who knows.)

So with a little help from Ravenlaughs, I came up with a list of other peoples takes on this epic theme song (that anyone who saw this show as a child can probably remember word for word). Ironically enough non of these version include the use of a cowbell... who knew, guess I'm super cutting edge.

Speaking of edge I'd really like to find a punk cover of this song.
