The Most Important Video I've Ever Made.

Hey Guys,

Today is Project 4 Awesome on youtube. It's a day where 1000's of people upload videos about charities.

Well I joined the crowd, but instead of a charity my video is about one man.
Some of you here know him. He is an artist, Luis Sanchez. And his work is amazing.



Luis is looking for a kidney donor, he's been on dialysis almost 3 whole years now. Which is too long.

Non Production Day #9

Today was supposed to be our ninth day shooting, but I woke up to an amazing array of stabbing pains in my stomach, two hours later when they were still attacking me I called off the shoot. Apparently much to Luis' relief as he wasn't feeling to go either.

I blame the gray skies, or that turkey and bacon sandwich I had last night, or the ice cream.

Honestly I have no idea what the hell went down. I went back to bed and woke up at 6pm, aside from feeling dehydrated all other pains have stopped.

So anyway as promised yesterday here is a picture from the interview with Gallery Curator Mike Russek.

Luis Sanchez Documentary CKD Update

I'm half blogging right now, just cause I haven't in a while. Gotta keep momentum up. We haven't shot anything since last week, but tomorrow I'm going down to help Luis Shoot a video for him. I might end up putting some version of it up on my youtube channel just to help spread the word, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Tomorrow I'm helping Luis shoot a video to ask people to see if they're a possible kidney donor.

Luis suffers from CKD - Chronic Kidney Disease. He's already had one transplant that lasted a little under a decade and now lives through dialasys treatments 4 days a week.

I'm not sure if we'll shoot anything else, and I have a feeling it'll be beyond emotional, so I'm struggling with whether or not I the documantarian should be shooting it to cover it for the film as well, or if I the friend should put a 100% of my focus in to the creation of this video for my friend.

Without another cameraman I figure I get to default to just being the good guy and focusing on the task at hand. So I really don't have to struggle with how much a soul I have at this time. :D

Production Day # 8 - Interview with Mike Russek

Today was a short and sweet one. I started the day running around and getting packed up. Headed over to Edgewise and picked up some tapes to shoot on. Think I need to order a large quantity of tapes online somewhere, even at a tape house the retail costs are ridiculous!

inspite of LA traffic and rain made good time to downtown and set up in Artist/Curator Mike Russek. Mike is a great artist who works in plastics, faux fur and wood. Somewhere between sculpture and furniture. He curated the art gallery at the Lucent L’amour event I tapes on Valentine's Day.

The really nice thing about this was
• It was our first Interview (aside from Luis himself)
• First change of location (aside from the Lucent event)
• Started to really explore Luis' LA past

Next shoot day isn't till maybe next Wednesay.

LSD a trip backwards

Hey Folks,

So I wanted to try and catch up before I moved forward. My plan is to start doing blogs after every day or at least week of shooting for the documentary. I started filming back in 08, due to my subjects dialysis schedule, and my own life I shoot a day or two a week on average.

Dialysis tends to leave Luis sleeping for a large chunk of the day, so on those days we don't bother filming (yet). I think we'll explore this aspect of his life in the future.

Currently my main focus is on his art and his process; I've spent several days watching him prep canvas, cover them in plaster and paint. This includes a few short time lapse exposures.

Hopefully soon I can put up some pictures from the set, pictures of the artwork and maybe some of the time lapse footage. I'm still debating if I should just put them up on my own youtube channel, or start yet another channel for this project alone (comments on this appreciated).

The Documentary and Introduction.

This is a real quick blog to say that I'll be blogging about my Documentary, I'll try to update this weekly and after any shoot days.

So let's catch you up to speed

This is Luis Sanchez, he's an amazing artist that currently lives in Los Angeles. Originally from Mexico, from the same town as Frida Kahlo. He learned to paint initially from his father and later inspired by artists like Salvador Dahli he went to school to study it.

It was in his college years Luis developed CKD - Chronic Kidney Disase. 26 million American adults have CKD and millions of others are at increased risk.

Luis Currently lives without kidneys and goes in for Dialysis treatments 4 days a week.

He is currently searching for a donor, as being the recipenant of a previous transplant he is very low on the organ donor list (estimated 7 years or so before he'd get a kidney through the list).

It is because of both his extrodianary art work and very personal story that I've choosen Luis as the subject of a feature film, and I hope I can bring awareness to the world of both his art and condition.

Just got home from 6 hours of shooting and wandering the streets of LA at The Do LaB's 4th annual Lucent L’amour - filming for my Documentary

all this after an 11pm audition last night, barely any sleep and 6 hours of classes this morning .

More soon. way to tired to think. it's almost 5am!

Monthly Check up.

I feel like I've a million things to talk about, and a million things to do.
I haven't blogged in forever because I've been trying to catch up on my Nanowrimo, I'm a little behind a few thousand words. Which honestly isn't that bad, but it's still behind.

So first off, Amy and I put out a video Monday and it got featured on Youtube's Comedy section. Hurray! It's been awhile since I felt I did anything cool video wise and that was really an amazing experience. It was by far the most professional shoot I've run/produced/directed. I can't wait to do something like it again, and more fight scenes!

One of the biggest problems with the videos is my external drive crashed, and my laptop is a bit full. I'm not rushing out to buy a new hard drive because I'm in between jobs right now. But I'm sure i'll succumb to the urge to create and get one. (though I did put a few on my amazon wishlist, should there be any kind strangers that think they have too much money).

Tomorrow I'm heading up to Youtube Live. I'm honestly not the most excited about it anymore. I was for a day and a half, now it just seems like it's going to be a giant hassle. I don't really want to see any of the acts, I just want to see people and hang out with friends. So who knows.

Thanksgiving is coming and I have no plans just yet, I'll be going to the UCB Thanksgiving on Wednesday to eat turkey and laugh with my fellow improv performers, that'll be nice. I'll be filming more stuff for the documentary next week as well. Then November will be over, Nanowrimo will be over and honestly I can't wait. as much as I want to finish this novel I want to not have to suffer my other projects to focus on it so much.

Hell maybe i'll just sit down one of these days and push out the last 20,000 words so i can be done with it. I want to put the novel down so I can go back to making comics strips, videos, blogs, etc... but I also want to get it to 50,000 words. I'm a bit competative, even when it's with myself. Especially with myself.

Moving On.

Hey Folks,

So today is a momentous occasion.
It's my last day at 'Girls Next Door'.
That is to say my work on this season is finished and my contract is over. I haven't been let go, I haven't stormed off quitting. This is just the life of a job in Hollywood. Especially reality TV.

It's rare to get a solid job, everyone's a free lance contract worker.

So what's next?

Nothing, Nada, Goose Egg, Bubkiss.

I have nothing lined up. I'm not bouncing off to some other job and I have to tell you, I love it. I'm not even planning on looking for a new job until 2009.

If you think not having a job means I won't be working you're dead wrong.

So what do I have lined up while I'm unemployed?

• Blogging - Oh hell yea I'm gonna get crazy with the chez whiz
• 15x - More Comic Strips
• Videos - This is all pretty standard fare right?
• Photoshoots - yea it's been forever. But I'm picking up the camera again.
  
• Nanowrimo - yep come Nov 1st I'm writing the most sarcastic vampire novel possible, and hopefully ever in existence
• Producing & Directing a Documentary

Wait what?
Yea that's right you heard me. I've been contemplating doing a feature length project since my earliest days making videos on youtube. The minute I understood I could do everything (write, direct, edit) I knew I could do a feature.

I'm meeting this Sunday with an amazing artist to talk to him about documenting his life and his work and we'll see how it goes. He seems excited. I'm Excited.

My Main goal right now is to create a trailer by New years and then use that to attract a financier.
